Village Farm Oatmeal Ordeal

Foods

Posted by WriteTheCompany.com

When my oatmeal bowl went bare, I felt Sturm Foods should instantly explain why…

Dear Village Farmers:

What’s going on with Village Farm Healthy For Your Heart Whole Grain Oatmeal? It’s disappearing! I’m not talking about in my mouth where it usually disappears either. I’m referring to it vanishing from stores! Have you Village Farmers gone on strike? What kind of Village Farm are you running if it’s running out of oatmeal?

Where has Village Farm Healthy For Your Heart Whole Grain Oatmeal gone? All I know is that Wal-Mart carried a ton of it, but not anymore. Have you looked on the Internet and seen all the comments from people who’ve become addicted to your oatmeal and can’t find it anywhere? Even searches online for resellers turns up a page for the product and a message that it’s either currently out of stock or unavailable. Is there an oatmeal shortage or famine going on? Did the FDA discover it wasn’t as healthy for your heart as you claimed? I realize it’s instant oatmeal, but it’s not supposed to disappear from store shelves instantly! Who’s responsible? Did you hire a new VP of Products that hates oatmeal?

Too many oatmeals taste like soaked cardboard. I want my Village Farm Healthy For Your Heart Whole Grain Oatmeal back! When will stores have it again? If it’s not coming back, based on the laws of supply and demand, I demand to know why. In the meantime, can you please send the recipe along with the secret behind how you make it taste better than all other disgusting tasting oatmeals?

A Customer Solutions Representative responded with:

Thank you for your recent e-mail. Your interest in Sturm Foods and Village Farm oatmeal is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately this product has very limited distribution at this time and may no longer be available in your area.

Currently the Village Farm products are being sold at HEB stores (Texas) and Price Chopper stores (northeast). We manufacture these oatmeals for the stores as well, so you may be able to locate them under the store’s brand name.

Please understand we are unable to process individual customer orders.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at (phone number and hours of operation followed).

Final Thoughts: Sturm Foods never explained why Village Farm Oatmeal is suddenly experiencing very little distribution. Because of that, for some unknown reason I’m now experiencing very little fiber distribution during breakfast. As a result, this oatmeal has gone from Healthy For Your Heart to Eat Your Heart Out trying to find it!

While I’m willing to go a long way for an outstanding bowl of oatmeal, getting to Texas or heading northeast from Florida isn’t what I had in mind. But the real issues are: Why isn’t Village Farm Oatmeal in Wal-Mart anymore and how come you can’t find anyone selling it on the Internet who isn’t out of stock? Sturm Foods avoided those questions, which is why for me, this response about oatmeal turned to mush.

If you’re also in search of Village Farm Oatmeal tell Sturm Foods. However, when any manufacturer leaves you feeling empty, don’t hesitate to Write The Company.

I think that Sturm has legal issues with potential patent infringement. Multibene company is suing them. Google it. This may be why we cannot find this product anymore.

Hi Scott: Thanks for presenting the legal angle! I’m not sure where this lawsuit currently stands or how it relates to or affects the sale of Village Farm Oatmeal. I couldn’t find any updates beyond a 2009 filing, which focuses on a motion to transfer venue from Maine to Wisconsin.

However, I did contact Price Chopper shortly after this blog post and they shipped me a case of Healthy for Your Heart Whole Grain Blueberry Oatmeal (no sugar added) packaged under their name. It wasn’t Black Market, it was Price Chopper Markets, so try giving that a shot!

If you go in to Walmart.com and type in the name, you can search by individual stores to see which ones have it. I am on a mission to get some for my grandsons. :) They love it!

As I mentioned in a previous comment, one phone call to Price Chopper got it done for me. Thanks for the suggestion!

I have been ordering the Village Farm oatmeal from FoodEx.com for a few years now because my Walmart stopped carrying. I have not been able to find another brand that I like. However, last night I ordered some from FoodEx.com and received an email that my order had been reduced to 6 boxes because they had discontinued the item. So once again, I am on the search for the Village Farm oatmeal. Which Price Chopper did you call to order?

I too just found two WalMart store shelves without Village Farm Whole Grain Oatmeal. I know I contacted Sturm Foods and Walmart a couple of years ago to restock with this product and they did. I am hoping contacting both again will work – but you make it sound not hopeful. I really like the quality of this oatmeal. Hope we can get it carried again.

I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one who is slightly obsessed with this oatmeal. My Walmart has completely fazed out the blueberry and now the cranberry has a red price tag (looks like its on sale but it’s not). I thought they were just trying to make room for Rachel Ray’s new oatmeal. I didn’t know they were stopping distribution! I should have stocked up my pantry when I had a chance! :(

We feed our pigs better then we feed our families. I have been very disappointed that I can not find the finest breakfast oatmeal in any Walmart Store any more. I have spent days going from one Walmart Store to another one and can not find it any more. I was able to buy two boxes last week but traveled many miles from one store to another in Melbourne and Palm Bay Florida again yesterday and could not find my favorite breakfast food any more. I had them search the storage areas but could not find any. If they do not have any then they can not sell any. The young guy sitting at the computer down in Arkansas can not find any sales so why have it any more???? How can they sell any when it is not in the store!!!!!!!!

I just looked online and in the last walmart in my area that carried the village farm cranberry oatmeal and it’s gone from both — not even listed at walmart.com anymore. That’s how I found a walmart not too far away that carried it — bought 6 boxes a few months ago, and I’m glad I did b/c it’s not even listed online anymore. SO disappointed b/c all other instant oatmeals are like eating a box of sugar doused cardboard. Maybe I can find it online somewhere…

I stood in the aisle at Walmart for twenty min looking at an aisle full of Quaker Oats BS sugar drenched cinnamon cardboard with tears in my eyes. My daily start of purity was gone. My life is at a standstill. How can I go on? I’m here like everyone else…looking for answers…praying I could find it online somewhere. What can I do? Blueberry wholegrain rehab? Pray to the gods? Write my congressman? I fear I might end up on the nightly news…man goes postal in Walmart. I started therapy, but she thinks I’m nuts…my obsession with this oatmeal is unhealthy. I too am addicted to their oatmeal. I have a 2 package a day habit. I noticed that dollar tree is no longer carrying it. However, I have found a supplier May’s drug store. Dollar General also sells it repackaged under their store brand Clover leaf farms or clover something. I know it is the same because it tastes the same and it also has the exact same wrapper on the inside of the box. Hope this is helpful.

I am so sick and tired of every time I like a product at my local Wal-Mart (only store in town for miles), they decide to discontinue the product, but they have gone TOO FAR dropping Village Farm oatmeal. This IS BS… this oatmeal is absolutely delicious, healthy and just plain ‘good’ for you!!! I guess Price Chopper ‘here I come’, don’t know what the shipping will cost, but I HAVE to have my Village Farm!

I am from Oklahoma and found out over the weekend that our Bartlesville WAL-MART replaced VILLAGE FARM oatmeal with Rachael Ray’s oatmeal – have you seen her lately??? Anyway, as everyone knows, the NUTRITION FACTS cannot or have not been met by any other distributor (no matter what the name!) AND the VILLAGE FARM oatmeal is great for my diabetic condition too. I will try the PriceChopper Corporate office and thank each and everyone for their thoughts regarding this oatmeal as my husband thought that I was a little bit “out-of-it” when I went crazy after finding out that WAL-MART replaced MY oatmeal and my oatmeal shelf was barren!!!

I just recently ordered a case of the Blueberry….they are shipping it to me shortly. I did ask how far West their stores carried it and the farthest west was Penn and NY. WOW…couldn’t believe it. Anyway, this oatmeal is GREAT for those who want to lose weight AND have a great tasting oatmeal. I am in the military and when I couldn’t buy this oatmeal at Wal-Mart, I saved a box and put it in storage just in case I needed to ever call the company. At this time I cannot find that box but I did some research and finally (by looking for key words and seeing a pic of what I was looking for) FOUND this oatmeal again. Thanks for all the comments above to help me get this oatmeal all the way in Missouri.

Here’s the link with contact info: http://www.pricechopper.com/contact-us

Historically, I’m not much of a blogger but I have to say that I think it’s fantastic to see that there are people in this country who really do care about what they put in their mouths. Second, it’s cool to know that I’m amongst the Village Farms Oatmeal loving “army” trying to get it back on shelves nationally again. Like the rest of you, we’re suffering here in Indiana without our #1 oatmeal. Also, I so appreciate knowing that Price Chopper will sell and ship it to us fans. Like y’all, I really don’t care what label their selling it under as long as it’s the same great product.

Now, all that being said, I’ve actually been making “my own version” of this wonderful stuff. I decided that since the ingredients are simple, healthy items (available by themselves), I would by them and blend my own. This has worked quite well in Village Farms absence. Anyone can buy a quality instant oatmeal, organic flax seed, fresh berries and your favorite sugar free sweetener (for me it’s Truvia/stevia or Splenda). An inexpensive coffee grinder will grind up your flax seed to the consistency you want and then you can add that to your instant oatmeal at the amount you prefer for the overall consistency you like in your oatmeal. There is no additional prep needed for the flax seed. Then, obviously, you add the amount of fruit and sweetener to your taste. It has worked well for me and is quite cost effective. The most expensive items are the fruit and flax seed of which a pound of flax seed goes a very long way when grinding it. Where I live, I can buy the seed for approx. $7.00/lb. That literally becomes a few pennies per serving when grinding it (and you don’t want to grind too much or you’ll be looking for something to store the ground excess in).

Thanks for entertaining my post and for helping to get the “easier” version back on the Wal-Mart shelves…hopefully VERY soon!!!

Yes, VillageFarm’s Whole Grain Blueberry Oatmeal WAS the best, but seems this brand is past … nobody can find it anywhere. Tried everywhere and even made requests to store managers but had no luck.

Meanwhile, tried several brands, did not like any of them until i tried the Simple Truth Organic Instant Oatmeal (natural Maple & brown sugar). It has become perfect substitute for the Village Farm, everybody in the house loves it. I know it’s available in Kroger but not sure what other stores have Simple Truth brand.

Sturm gave me a list of stores that may carry it still under the Village Farm brand: Dwayne Reade, Woodman’s, Fleet Farm, some Walmart stores, some Walgreens stores.

Looks like it went from difficult to find to now near-impossible to find. Too bad since this is the only oatmeal my wife and my grandmother-in-law will eat.

The only consolation from this product missing from my daily routine is that I did find the Better Oats, Oat Fit Oatmeal to replace it in 2 flavors…Cinnamon Roll and Maple & Brown Sugar. For those of you in Texas, the grocery chain HEB carries the Blueberry flavor under the HEB Store Brand. I figured it had to be the same since it was low in sugar, labeled “Healthy for Your Heart.” Sure enough, inner packaging is identical to the Village Farm packaging. So, if you have a HEB store nearby, check it out. I found out that they used to have the cranberry flavor too but it is now discontinued. Too bad since my family likes the cranberry way better than blueberry.
