Scared Off by Marshmallow Fluff

Trying to create a truly unique Halloween costume character can be frighteningly challenging. What I had in mind involved lots of Marshmallow Fluff. The question is: Would it work? I contacted Durkee-Mower, makers of Marshmallow Fluff, for their opinion…

Dear Marshmallow Fluffers:

I’ve always been a fan of Marshmallow Fluff. And with Halloween coming up, I’m doing some preliminary research into possible costumes. So, if I completely covered myself in Marshmallow Fluff and went out as an Albino Ghost, would the fluff harden after a few hours or would it stay sticky all night?

This is critical information because if I end up at someone’s costume party, sitting down could be an issue. Not for me, but for their couch fabric. Or, if they have a white toilet seat and someone uses it right after me, that might scare the you-know-what out of them.

If this works, it could trigger the start of many costume ideas nationwide for future Halloweens. Imagine the publicity you could generate if people started dressing up as Fluff the Magic Dragon or Fluffy the Vampire Killer. Have any of your employees ever done this for one of your company Halloween parties?

Nothing beats those peanut butter and Marshmallow Fluff Fluffernutter sandwiches. Hmm, I’m not only getting hungry, I’m getting an idea for another costume!

A Marshmallow Fluff representative responded with:

There is no doubt about it, this is the most original Halloween costume idea I’ve ever heard. The unfortunate part is that if you were going to place it on your 98 degree body it would slowly run down right off of you, not leaving much on the surface.

I wish we could be more encouraging about your costume idea because it certainly would be the contest winner.

Thank you for writing and good luck on your costume.

Final Thoughts: Well, that idea gives new meaning to the term “Fluff and Fold.” When you crave a real treat this Halloween, go for the Marshmallow Fluff. However, if you plan on covering yourself with something to create a costume, use some different stuff. And remember, one way to find out if you should stick with an idea you have for a product is to Write The Company.

Not true,

I didn’t smear it all over my body, but on my head only. It dries and does not “run”. For added effect, put mini-marshmellows which look like boils. Add the mini-marshmellows after applying the fluff, as it’s too hard to apply with the marshmellows mixed with the fluff.

Love the mini-marshmallows as “boils” touch. Brilliant! Sounds like you have a head for this sort of stuff. Congratulations on making it work and thanks for the suggestions.
