There’s no question that chips and dip belong with each other. In an attempt to bring them even closer together, I proposed this idea to the makers of Kettle Potato Chips…
Dear Ma & Pa Kettle:
It is mind-boggling how many tantalizing chip flavors you’ve created — Jalapeno, Sweet Onion, Death Valley Chipotle, Backyard Barbeque, Sour Cream Onion & Chive, Buffalo Bleu, Cheddar Beer, Classic Barbeque, Dill & Sour Cream, Honey Dijon, Lightly Salted, New York Cheddar, Salt & Fresh Ground Pepper, Sea Salt & Vinegar, Spicy Thai, Tuscan Three Cheese, Unsalted, and Yogurt & Green Onion. Did I leave any out? Oh yeah, Island Jerk. You may not be able to get blood out of a stone, but you can sure get a lot out of a potato!
But even with all the choices, nothing goes better with chips than dip. So, why not make it easier for consumers by tossing the dip right into the bag on to the chips? There’s plenty of room because chip bags are only half-filled to leave room for air so they can breathe during shipping.
The dip gets on your hands anyway, so no one is really going to get any messier. Why force people to buy it separately when you can deliver the end result by just mixing it in? Plus, everyone still has to lick the chip oil off their fingers, so it’s not like they’re going to stop saliva washing their paws anytime soon. The money shoppers save on not having to buy chip dips anymore will surely be reinvested into more Kettle Chips! Ingenious, don’t you think?
Gotta love crunch time!
A Representative from Kettle Foods responded with:
Hello!
Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback! Your comments have been shared!
Thanks, again! Enjoy!
Thanks for the dip suggestion — no plans right now to make it, but we love hearing from fans.
Final Thoughts: The reply was handwritten on a card with the Kettle Brand logo on the front. “Go forth and taste!” was printed under the message inside. On the back of the card, it says, “stay salty stay funky®.” Also included was a coupon good for one Free Kettle Brand item — a very tasty gesture. Even though my chip-dip combo idea didn’t fit their plans, Kettle passed on it politely. In such a short note, they thanked me three times and used five exclamation points, so I believe they meant it.
When you have a craving for chips, consider Kettle. Finally, if you like to stir or shake things up, you can often generate a reaction if you Write The Company.

What are the odds! I kid you not…I clicked on this while eating a bag of Kettle salt and vinegar chips w/dip on the side. While I admire your idea my husband and I do not like the same flavor dips so I’m going to have to go with Kettle’s decision. Sorry, have to clean off the keyboard now…

What a coincidence! I’m not sure what the odds are of that, but I do know that when you put all your chips on the table, anything can happen.
